Family Friendly
Join self-proclaimed "monarch maniac" Janet Smith in Frisco for a family-friendly afternoon exploring the incredible world of monarch butterflies—from spotting the differences between monarchs and other orange butterflies to uncovering their epic multi-thousand-mile migration. You'll leave with practical tips for creating a pollinator-friendly habitat right at home, all while enjoying the welcoming, clean space this local pizza spot is known for. It's a fun, educational outing for curious minds of all ages this Saturday, October 3rd!
From the organizer
Learn how to tell monarchs apart from other orange butterflies, understand their fascinating life cycle from egg to adult, and the incredible migration that takes them thousands of miles across North America. Janet also explains the major reasons monarch populations have declined in recent decades and shares practical, achievable ways anyone can help support monarchs and other pollinators at home. It’s an inspiring, beginner‑friendly look at how small habitat choices can make a big difference. Janet discovered her passion for ecological gardening after a simple landscaping project led her to join the Dallas County Master Gardener class of 2005, where she embraced waterwise and Earth‑Kind principles. Since then, she has become a dedicated educator and volunteer—creating pollinator habitats, speaking widely on sustainable landscaping, and earning numerous certifications and awards, including national recognition for her service. Inspired by a visit to the monarch sanctuaries in Mexico, she now proudly calls herself a “monarch maniac,” sharing her enthusiasm for protecting butterflies, bees, and birds.
