In one of the most exciting urban transformations we have seen in years, the city is turning stretches of Main Street into a completely car-free, pedestrian paradise.

A Colorful Makeover by Better Block
To welcome the World Cup, Downtown Dallas, Inc. has partnered with the urban design group Better Block to completely transform Main Street into a vibrant "civic living room."
Right now, 35 parking spaces have been blocked off and painted with bright shades of blue, orange, and pink. Instead of traffic, these spaces are now filled with shaded structures, cooling elements, public seating, and life-size games. It is a massive push to make the heart of the city more walkable, vibrant, and welcoming for both locals and global visitors.
What to Expect at "Main Street Social Saturdays"
The absolute highlight of this transformation is Open Streets: Main Street Social Saturdays.
For four consecutive weekends throughout June and July, Main Street will be completely shut down to vehicle traffic between Akard and Harwood streets from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
This car-free experience is 100% free to attend and perfect for families. You can stroll right down the middle of Main Street while enjoying:
- Local Vendors & Markets: Support Dallas small businesses and artisans.
- Live Music: Local artists providing a backyard-concert atmosphere.
- Chalk Art & Family Activities: Plenty of space for kids to run, play, and create without worrying about downtown traffic.
